madgi's three

I woke up this morning with lots of things on my mind and wanting to sit for a bit and write here. Not sure where to begin so I'll just jump right in and try to remember all the things I've wanted to write about:

Mother's Day was fun! We celebrated Carm and Emmy and had a garden picnic at Rob and Andrea's. It was awesome.

The night before we had dinner with Becky and Ken and I hung out with Becky for a long time out in her garden. Again, very awesome!

As far as our own garden, we spent a couple of weekends cleaning up and planting veggies and some new ornamentals. We have peppers, eggplant, one artichoke plant, six different tomatoes and some new grasses. The lawn is gorgeous after all the rain and the iris, lillies, roses and poppies are blooming. We have bbq'd out there almost every night now that the rain has stopped. Our outside dining room is back in action!

One late afternoon/early evening last week I was sitting outside and saw a Cooper's Hawk, an egret, a flock of geese and a duck couple and their male friend all within an hour of each other. The ducks landed on our roof and checked it all out. I love my garden so much!

Yesterday was Madgi's birthday and she got a new collar, strapette and some toys that she hasn't really played with because she's addicted to the new strap toy, strapette. Strapette is just like her favorite toy, strappy, but it's made out of shiny noisy ribbons instead of suede. She even got to play with strapette outside yesterday, which is probably the best birthday ever for a 3 year old kitten.

Work is busy, crazy busy. Our office moves in two weeks (over the holiday weekend) and that means lots of packing, sorting through papers and files, trying to get the attorneys to toss old stuff and just alot of dust and craziness floating about in the air. It's also almost the end of the school year which means lots of things going on with the school we work with - 8th grade graduation and student sponsorship for their camping trip, volunteer appreciation events, fundraising for the 4th/5th grade trip which took place last fall, a home-cooked lunch at the school today and more. I need to organize a rootbeer float sale fundraiser for this week and a potluck lunch/bake sale for next week. I also need to organize the student sponsorship program very soon. And we have a high school senior interning with some of our attorneys and she will be in today and tomorrow so I need to organize a conference call for her so she can speak to someone in our LA office about immigration law. It's all very exciting and rewarding work but holy guacamole there's alot going on right now.

This weekend we head up to Napa for Slide West, an evening of photographers sharing their work down in a cave dug out of the side of a mountain. Dinner will be served out by the pool. I'm really looking forward to this party - it's very inspiring and some of the people are very funny so there are sure to be some laughs.

Carmelina's second surgery went really well. All of the lymph nodes came back negative which means the surgeon removed all of the cancer. To reduce the chance of recurrence from 50% to 16%, she'll undergo two 12-week sessions of chemotherapy treatments and one 4 to 6 week radiation treatment. All of this means that although it might be a bit of a bumpy tough road ahead, by the end of this year this will all be behind you. And we'll all be here to help you in any way we can because we love you!

As I finish writing this I'm looking at the most beautiful stalk of rust colored iris. The third flower on the stalk has opened about halfway since we woke up and by the end of the day it should be open all the way. I'll take some photos when I get home tonight and make some time to update over on flickr.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go . . .
