annegeluna's Diaryland Diary

sparkly goodness

I'm sitting here on the couch finally writing again. Bryan and Madge are snuggled in on the other couch and we just finished eating dinner and watching a Bay Area Backroads' piece on Alaska.

Only two weeks until the show! In the room next to me are 18 prints and 19 frames of various shapes, sizes and colors. This week we'll work on the final print and the totem images and assemble everything next weekend. Then comes the pricelist, the artist's statement, loading up the car, driving the pieces up to the gallery and then (drumroll, please) show time! This has been such an amazing experience in so many ways and soon we get to celebrate the experience and share our work with everyone. I'm so happy that Rob asked me to work with him on this piece. I swear, I have the best brother!

Mexico was wonderful. We spent a few days in Puerto Vallarta before heading to Yelapa where we stayed in a small house on the bay for 4 days. It was beautiful! Every morning we sat out on the deck watching the pelicans and drinking our coffee and one morning we were suprised to see a group of playful dolphins right before our eyes! We took a boat ride to the Marietta Islands where we were treated to a delicious ceviche lunch on a deserted beach while the blue-footed boobies hung out on the cliffs above us. We snorkeled and saw huge rays and sea turtles on the boat ride back. We hiked through the village of Yelapa, back and forth from the beach for afternoon swims and between our house and the house our friends had rented. On our last afternoon we took a hike up river with a local women who practices herbal medicine and she pointed out the plants she uses to treat all types of ailments. She also shared with us stories about her childhood and growing up with and learning from her grandmother and how she is now passing her knowledge on to the young man who was our translator on the hike. We then returned to Puerto Vallarta for Thanksgiving dinner at Cafe Des Artistes and a relaxing morning after spent reading on the rooftop of our old hotel before leaving for the airport and the flight home. An active yet relaxing vacation was had by all. And the tequila was delicious! Of course, so was every meal, every limonada, every coffee and every Yelapa cookie.

Taking a cab from the BART station that first night back we saw Christmas trees and holiday lights and boy was it cold! We now have a new and efficient space heater in the living room and soon we will have a beautiful tree with lights and ornaments in the front window. We'll hang our stockings in front of the fireplace, light the candles on the mantle and read cards from friends and family in the comfort and warmth of our home. And at night I will snuggle into bed with my little family, turn my head toward the Christmas tree, slip my glasses off my face and gaze at the tree in far-sighted wonderment.
