annegeluna's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- carmelina Right now I'm sitting on the couch at my Mom's house. She's sitting in her chair reading, with a cat on each side of her. Beppo is sound asleep with his legs and head hanging down and Layla is sitting up looking out the window. Bently, the gianormous dog, is sleeping on the floor next to me. There's a fire in the fireplace and Cliff's in the kitchen making breakfast, which smells delicious. It's a good morning here! Yesterday Carm underwent the axillary disection surgery to remove the lymph nodes under her arm. The pathology from the lumpectomy/partial mastectomy came back on the 14th and the sentinel node showed very minimal traces of cancer so as a precaution, Dr. MacAlreath wanted to remove all of the lymph nodes. The surgery yesterday went really well. Carm came home in the early evening, slept a bit and then we all sat together and ate the delicious dinner that Becky had made for us. Carm's doing really well this morning, up and about and reading the binder she was given yesterday at the hospital. It's a wealth of information on breast cancer, the axillary disection procedure, drain and incision care and lots of nice photographs and inspiring quotations. As I sit here and look over at my Mom, I am in awe of her strenth and determination. Of course there have been difficult times for her over the past month and during her life and while she is very open about feeling fear, anger, frustration and all of the other emotions, she maintains her positive outlook and her sense of humor. I've always known she was a strong woman and that we come from a family of strong women and men and in challenging times that strength is awesome to experience. Experiencing the generosity and support of friends, family and the medical professionals is also awesome. There is definitely strength in numbers and power in good thoughts and positive energy.
